Hey folks, I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is going to be short. E3 was, in a word, disappointing. There's only a handful of games that caught my interest and I'll be talking about those. But for the vast majority of the conferences, I was bored. The best moment of the show was when Keanu Reeves appeared at the end of the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer and we found out that he's in the game. It was all downhill after that.
The Outer Worlds: The next RPG by Obsidian game studios that looks a lot like Fallout IN SPACE! It will be released on October 25.
Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt Red stole the show with this. At the end of the new trailer, Keanu Reeves showed up and the audience lost their minds. He's voicing the character Johnny Silverhand in the game, and we got a release date of April 15, 2020. So, we only have to wait less than a year, I can't wait.
Elden Ring: The collaboration between Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin. We still don't really know anything, but I look forward to learning more about it.
Age of Empires II - Definitive Edition: I grew up playing this game and am super happy to see it coming back. At the moment it's only scheduled for a PC Release, hopefully we'll get a console version soon as well.
Wasteland 3: The second sequel to Fallout's predecessor. I still need to play the second game, I've heard nothing but good things. This one takes place in the snow-covered regions of Colorado as opposed to the desert of Arizona. It's supposed to be out sometime in 2020.
Project Scarlet: The last thing Microsoft announced was their next game console. It will ship in "Holiday" 2020, and Halo Infinite will be a launch title. To give themselves some wiggle room, however, they refrained from defining what timeframe "Holiday" actually represents. I'm guessing November 2020.
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order: This was the major game at EA's showcase, and I don't know if it's because of how little I trust EA, or because I'm utterly burned out on Star Wars, but I just can't seem to muster any enthusiasm for this. It looks fine, like a combination of Uncharted and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, which isn't a bad thing as far as single player goes. It comes out November 15th.
Bethesda's conference was just sad, it's not even worth going over. Really the only good thing to come out of it were the release dates for Wolfenstein: Youngblood (July 26) and Doom Eternal (11/22). They talked about all these new free updates for Fallout 76, and free stuff for Elder Scrolls Blades, like they're trying to buy the fans back. A smart move would have been to announce a Fallout 3/New Vegas Remaster double pack. I doubt it would take long, and it would at least earn them some goodwill back. As it is, Bethesda seemed hellbent on continuing to crash and burn.
Watch Dogs Legion: So, we have an official announcement for Watch Dogs 3. This one takes place in London and lets you recruit a team of NPCs to resist the authoritarian government. You can play as different NPCs, and some can apparently die permanently. It looks promising. It's coming March 6, 2020.
Devolver Digital's press conference was, strange, to put it mildly. The one game that did catch my attention, however, was Carrion, a 2D pixel game. They're calling it a "reverse horror game" since you play as an amorphous blob that has gotten loose and proceeds to eat the scientists. It's certainly a unique concept, and it has me intrigued.
Valfaris: Another 2D pixelated indie game, this one by the creators of Slain Back from Hell. It looks similar, but with a more Science Fiction vibe. The PC looks a lot like the God Emperor of Mankind from 40K. It's also got a heavy metal soundtrack. It certainly has my attention, and it reminds me that I need to play Slain.
